COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE 93RD GENERAL CHURCH COUNCIL OF

THE CHURCH OF CHRIST IN NATIONS

HELD AT THE COCIN HEADQUARTERS CHURCH, JOS, PLATEAU STATE

FROM 13TH -17TH NOVEMBER, 2017

 

PREAMBLE

John 5:17-18

Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working.” NIV

John 9:4

As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. NIV

Eph 2:10

For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. NIV

 

At the end of its session, the General Church Council:

  1. Appreciates God for the progress so far we have attained as a Church in our foreign Missions. We are now in 11 Countries from 5, with the addition of Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Burkina Faso and Cameroon.
  1. Appreciates God for the gentle but steady progress we are making at Karl Kumm University project.
  1. Appreciates our former Missionaries for the visit to the Church from September to October in company of Mark Scott, the Director, Pioneer UK and Europe and the heartwarming letter from Eric Peters the International Director of Pioneers. We also welcome to this 93rd GCC Rev. & Mrs Alan Chilver and Dr. & Dr. (Mrs) Peter Young.
  1. Appreciates God for the successful workshop organized for our Pastors on the use of the African Study Bible, as our Pastors were blessed and equipped for more effective ministry.
  1. Reiterates the need for her members to participate in the Voter’s and National Identification Card registration.
  1. Calls on all her Church Congregations to paste in the Church auditoriums the Vision and Mission statements of the Church to serve as a reminder to her members.
  1. Adopts “Attaining the Righteousness of God’’ (Philippians 3:9) as the theme for the year 2018.
  1. Adopts 4 top goals for the year 2018, which are Attaining the Righteousness of God, Prayer & Revival, Discipleship, Mission and Evangelism.
  1. Calls on her Pastors at all levels to re-strategize on how to continue pursuing the discipleship mandate.
  1. Calls on the Government of Plateau State, particularly the State Assembly to align with Taraba and Benue States, by enacting the “no open grazing law” in Plateau State. As communities are being constantly attacked by Fulani herdsmen grazing into farmlands.
  1. Calls on the Plateau State government to put in place facilities that will resettle the internally displaced people back to their ancestral communities and farmlands.
  1. Condemns in strong terms the incessant attack on communities in Plateau State particularly, Miango, Riyom and Wereh, despite the presence of the security personnel.
  1. Condemns the constant kidnapping of her Pastors and members in recent times. We demand for their immediate and unconditional release.
  1. Condemns the mass illegal migration of unknown persons into the country. Calls on the Federal Government to curb the said illegal migration.
  1. Calls on the National Assembly to compile the list of all organizations which Nigeria belongs to and all the treaties signed with the view to dropping all the religious ones.
  1. Calls on the Federal government to intensify efforts in addressing the issue of decaying infrastructures such as roads, electricity and health institutions.
  1. Calls on State Governments across Nigeria to clear the back logs of outstanding salaries and gratuity, so as to curtail the incessant worker’s strike.
  1. Condoles the families of Late Da Bitrus Pam (First indigenous General Secretary of the Church), Late Rev. Lurther Cishak (Former President of the Church), and families of other Clergy and Members of the Church who passed on.
  1. Appreciates God for the recovery of His Excellency President Mohammadu Buhari’s health and prays for her members that are facing various health challenges.
  1. Re-elects Rev. Dr. Dachollom Chuwang Datiri as President of COCIN for another term.
