COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE 92ND GENERAL CHURCH COUNCIL OF THE CHURCH OF CHRIST IN NATIONS HELD IN JOS, PLATEAU STATE FROM 15TH – 19TH MAY, 2017

PREAMBLE

1       Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. (Col 3:1-4 NIV)

At the end of its session, the General Church Council:

 

  1. Appreciates God for the success of the first phase of a “Night with the COCIN President” which took place on the 13th of May, 2017 for an interactive session with some members of the church.

 

  1. Appreciates God for a successful Seminar for those who will retire within the next five years, which was held from 11th – 13th April, 2017 and calls on the would be retirees to put into practice what they learn.

 

  1. Calls on her Members to embrace the Vision and Mission statements of the Church purposefully as a divine strategy towards our glorious destiny as a Church.

 

  1. Calls on her Members to embrace the COCIN Theme for the year “Seeking God’s Kingdom first” as a Vehicle that will convey us to our top goals for the year which are Prayer, Revival, Discipleship, Mission and Evangelism.

 

  1. Congratulates Mrs Nanwul Gutip author of the book, “COCIN: Birth to Growth’’ Revised Edition. Encourages her Members to buy and read the book as well as the handbook on COCIN Practical Experience Service Scheme (COPESS).

 

  1. Appreciates the Christian Learning Material Centre, Nairobi, Kenya, an outfit of Association of Evangelicals in Africa, for training our Sunday school teachers earlier in the year.

 

  1. Congratulates The Associations of Evangelicals in Africa (AEA) for a successful Golden Jubilee celebration and the Awardees and also encourages her Members to contribute in cash and kind towards the AEA headquarters building project in Nairobi, Kenya.

 

  1. Calls on her Members to attend, buy and support the launch of the African Study Bible (ASB) planned to take place on the 29th June, 2017 at the Christian Centre, Abuja.

 

  1. Resolves to partner with Kairos, an organization whose objective is to equip Christians with tools and strategic approach to World Evangelization, to train all her Pastors on Missions.

 

  1. Calls on her teeming Members to be wise and modest in their spending in this present recession and to form cooperative societies that will enable them have access to loan facilities. Commends her members for giving generously despite the recession.

 

  1. Calls on her member to ensure they participate in the ongoing INEC voters registration/revalidation and National Identity Management Council card registration (NIMC).

 

  1. Commends the government of Plateau State for working so hard in maintaining the peace we now enjoy in the State, however, calls on the government to as a matter of security urgency address the invasion of Wase LGA, in large trucks, by suspicious persons.

 

  1. Appreciates God for the return of further eighty two (82) Chibok School girls, hoping that the remaining girls and others will be released and rejoin their families soon.

 

  1. Calls on the Federal Government to intensify their effort towards curbing the harassement, threats and killing by the Fulani herdsmen in various communities in the country, disturbing innocent farmers as the farming season progresses.

 

  1. Calls on North Eastern Development Commission to be fair and credible in fulfilling their objective as a Commission, devoid of religious and ethnic bias.

 

  1. Encourages the Federal Government to continue its fight against corruption, however, it should be just and fair, fishing out all officers within her ranks.

 

  1. Condoles the families of Late Rev. Samuel Poret, Chairman PCC Panyam, and other Clergy and members of the church who lost their beloved ones. Condoles the President and members of Evangelical Reform Church of Christ (ERCC) over the loss of some of the members of their women fellowship in a fatal motor accident recently.

 

  1. Prays for the quick recovery of President Mohammadu Buhari, GCFR and some COCIN members that are facing various health challenges. Prays for the acting President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo for God to give him the wisdom and grace to discharge his duties.
